Ocular melanomas are the most common primary intraocular
tumor of adults, but it is still rare: only 0.5 per 100,000 are
diagnosed in the United States each year. The age range is 40-75
years, with a peak at 50 (American Academy for Ophthalmology).
personally, melanoma has also touched my family. my father had a stage one melanoma removed from his back over 5 years ago. it was caught early so there were no other complications and a low risk of spread but he has the scar as a reminder all those days of surfing and slopping on the coconut oil weren't so carefree...
